After regional NSDI consultations that the NSA conducted in November 2020, several regional councils and local authorities indicated readiness to start the process of decentralising NSDI to the regions as a tool for planning. They requested NSA to assist with setting up lightweight GIS open source solutions at their institutions and train their planning staff. To respond to these requests, NSA started rolling out the Open Source GIS solutions and trained staff on how to use them in February 2021.
